Alex Lenkoski has joined the NR as senior research scientist at SAMBA, the department of Statistical Analysis, Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis.

Alex studied mathematics at Amherst College, USA, and received a PhD in statistics from the University of Washington.  He then spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at Heidelberg University in Germany before coming to Norway.

His research focuses on the use of hierarchical Bayesian methods, particularly in issuing forecasts for high-dimensional phenomena.  He has worked in a range of areas include finance, economics, meteorology and hydrology.  In his free time he's an avid rock climber.
