New research scientist has joined NR

Evind AkerEvind Aker joined our research department SAND February 8, 2016.

Eyvind Aker holds a PhD in physics from the Department of Physics at NTNU. In the PhD he simulated two-phase fluid displacements in a porous network of pores and throats. His professional experience covers a variety of topics related to the oil and gas industry. After finishing the PhD he started working in WesternGeco, a seismic exploration company in Norway. At WesternGeco he developed and tested new sensors in seismic streamers in order to reduce the noise in seismic data.

Then he worked more than eight years at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute with research and development within petroleum related geophysics and geomechanics. In particular he modeled rock mechanic and rock physic effects in the subsurface due to geological storage of CO2.

The last three years he has been working at AGR Petroleum Services providing consultancy to the oil and gas companies. There he has been modelling subsurface pore pressure and wellbore stability to ensure safe drilling. He has also performed velocity modelling from seismic data and participated in the development of a web application for visualization of well log data from the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

At NR Eyvind will develop software and methods related to seismic inversion, surface modelling and depth conversion using Python.
