We have developed and implemented a new object-based channel facies module, which can be applied in for example fluvial or deep marine channelized reservoirs. This module is based on a novel algorithm for robust conditioning to abundant well data, including horizontal wells, while capturing geological realistic geometries of channels, levees and crevase splays. This module is available in Roxar RMS, a reservoir management software from Emerson.

The geology of reservoirs is traditionally modelled using stochastic processes. In this study we investigate how numerical simulations of geological processes can be used to improve the reservoir models.

The aim of this study is to model the stacking of mouthbars and clinoforms in fluvial deltas using the Roxar RMS software.

In order to predict the production of a petroleum reservoir it is important to derive good mathematical models for the geology of the reservoir. The petrophysical parameters, i.e. permeability, porosity and saturations, will affect the flow of the oil, water and gas present in the reservoir, and it is therefore important to generate realistic models of these.

The project concentrates on shoreface reservoirs. In a shoreface reservoir the deposition of sediments is due to the variation of the sea level and therefore the facies are often forming belts in a systematic pattern. For example will a shoreface reservoir deposited by a river create curved facies belts, but a reservoir deposited by a wave, will create parallel facies belts.

The aim of this project was to develop an algorithm for facies modeling and stacking of lobe elements within turbidite lobes, with feeder channels conditioned to well data.

The GEOPARD project is about bringing more geological realism into the statistical framework used to generate 3D models of geology. The goal is to develop a modern facies model that meets the industry demands on honoring both observations and geological concepts. GEOPARD provides reservoir geologists with a tool tailored specifically to their terminology and needs in the reservoir modelling workflow. This will make the models easier to use and open up for direct use of geological outcrop data that is often overlooked.

NR has developed a module in object modelling for local update of the realization in an area around the new well information, leaving the other parts of the reservoir unchanged. This gives a new, updated realization with minor changes from the original, but matching the well observations.

When modeling oil- and gas-reservoirs one defines a 3D grid and fills this grid with sand and shale. The patterns formed by the porous and permeable sand and the impenetrable shale, determines the flow properties of the reservoir. It is necessary to take into account statistical uncertainty and study the flow properties from a probabilistic point of view. Markov mesh models constitute one methodology for doing this.

Multipoint methods are a set of pixel based simulation techniques. The term multipoint is used to stress that higher order statistics are used to capture the patterns seen in nature. This is in contrast to the variogram based techniques such as truncated Gaussian random fields and indicator kriging.

TuMod mimics the sequence of deposition and generates the geometry of stacked turbidite events. This is done by generating many individual events and stacking them on top of each other. Intermediate deposition of clay rich material are also modelled.
