Jarle Bauck Hamar has joined the NR as senior research scientist at SAMBA, the department of Statistical Analysis, Pattern Recognition and Image Analysis, section Earth Observation.

Jarle has a master in communication technology at NTNU, Trondheim, with signal processing as the main field. He continued at NTNU with a PhD in automatic speech recognition, where his main focus was to improve the hidden Markov models used in a large vocabulary automatic speech recogniser.

Before moving to Oslo, he spent two years at the company Aptomar where he worked on their system for oil spill monitoring and automatic oil spill detection.

At NR Jarle will focus on remote sensing, oil spill detection, pattern recognition and image analysis.
